No. Packed By Owner (PBO) boxes cannot be guaranteed under any moving insurance policy.
Packing your own belongings is referred to as “Packed By Owner” or “PBO“. PBO boxes are not insured during your move. We always suggest hiring professional packers for this reason.
Lake City Mover absolutely encourages safe and proper packing by customers. We are more than willing to advise you in the packing process. If you need help, but cannot afford to hire professional packers, just call us for advice.
Unfortunately, due to insurance regulations, no professional mover can guarantee the quality of packing when it is not done by the company itself. For this reason, the contents of your boxes, if packed by owner, will not be insured. Unless a box is negligibly dropped, punctured or damaged in some other way, we cannot replace any damaged items in your PBO boxes.
How do I ensure my boxes are insured properly?
When you prepare for your move, budget for your packing services, this will guarantee your boxes and their contents are insured during your move. Avoid packing any boxes yourself, although their may be some temptations to prepare for your move. You want all or as many boxes as possible to be packed by Lake City Mover. Every box we pack is insured and guaranteed to be packed with quality professional standards.
You can also pay for “Full Valuation” which will give you additional coverage on your belongings during your move. Standard valuation is included for free, but only guarantees your items at .60 cents per pound. Full Valuation guarantees your goods at $6.00 per pound.
When you purchase your packing services, be sure to ask about full valuation and we will make sure we add the additional coverage to your services. This is how you get the most out of your packing services and get the highest level of insurance coverage.
I know how to pack. Can you just insure the boxes anyway?
No. Even if you purchase full valuation for your move, we cannot insure the contents of any boxes that were packed by owner, or not packed by our company.
The reason for this policy is that we simply cannot guarantee to the insurance company that every box was properly packed. Even if you are a professional packer yourself, our company assumes the liability of your boxes contents only when we pack your boxes.
