Yes. We have lift-gates.
Lift-gates are a very functional piece of equipment for moving companies. At Lake City Mover we utilize lift-gates for many different purposes. Lift-gates are slower moving than ramps, and so we utilize lift-gates for strategic purposes like heavy or bulky items.
Often times customers may have items that are extremely heavy or bulky, like gun safes or pool tables. In this situation it may be more sensible to use a lift-gate truck for that move. Lift-gates have weight capacities, usually around 3,000 lbs. This is of course much higher than a ramp capacity which is usually around 1,000 lbs.
Lift-gates are of course limited in weight capacity, if you ever reach that capacity it won’t be too often, but it is still there. Lift-gates also have a size limitation, usually measuring about 4 feet by 6 feet. Items larger than this will have to be loaded either with a fork lift or in a truck and trailer combination vehicle. Very large items like playgrounds simply could not be loaded on a lift-gate.
Lift-gates are great tools for moving, but they do have their downfalls. Lift-gates can become extremely slick if it rains and thus should be avoided in this situation. Lift-gates are also driven by a hydraulic system that is so powerful it could easily crush a hand, foot or limb if used improperly. It is very important that lift-gates are only operated by a trained professional.
Not all of our trucks have lift-gates, and so if you believe your move requires a lift-gate please be sure to ask for this accommodation. Also, be sure to disclose any extremely heavy or bulky items in your inventory. Our professionals will be sure to dispatch a lift-gate truck if it is thought that a lift-gate is needed. We also utilize combination vehicles with ramp doors that serve the same needs as lift-gates, and so this option may be preferred.
